At Home with Sanja Alexandra
We went to the beautiful Copenhagen home of Sanja Alexandra to talk about her neighborhood, interior design and art.

Thank you for inviting Paper Collective into your lovely home Sanja. Can you start by telling me a little bit about your neighbourhood in Copenhagen, how long you have lived there and what you enjoy about this part of the city?
Sanja:
Thanks for stopping by. I’ve lived in Nordvest for more than ten years. When I first moved here, that wasn’t much going on in the neighborhood. But so much have happened over the last decade. I love spending time to just walk around and explore, grab a coffee and a bun at Flere Fugle and a cold pint at Konkylie.

You are working across a lot of creative endeavours. What do you enjoy about the variety when working with interiors, styling, fashion and floristry?
Sanja:
I love how I can do mixed media. It’s always a pleasure combining more than one creative output of my work with eachother.

Your home is full of lovely colours. Can you tell me about some of the choices you have made for the different spaces in your home and why you chose them (kitchen, bedroom)?
Sanja:
I love working with expression and feelings. I wanted my apartment to reflect a modern take on the use of colors used in 1908, when the building was made. I’ve chosen to colordrench all woodwork in an creamy warm grey, to bring it to attention but without making it the center of attention. The colorscheem for my bedroom was with focus for calmness and softness, but with a cool undertone in the wall shade. My kitchen needed to be somewhat brought together as it was originally my old kitchen and bedroom that I’ve brought together. There was a lot going on with pipes and the ceilings and across the room, so I chose to paint all surfaces the same blue color to create a more aligned and neutral canvas for the kitchen it self and my dining table.

I also love your mix of old and new, colour and textures. What are you looking for when bringing new objects and items into your space and layering up your interior?
Sanja:
Thanks! I love going on small scavenger hunts in second hand shops and at thriftmarkeds. I’m not looking for anything in particular. I of course have some sort of vision for my apartment and the space I want it to be, but it’s a very organic process and I buy with gut feeling not by trends or designers. Layering is essential for me in my interior, I love love love tactile and visual spacing and decoration. And I love for everyone who steps into my home to just let their eyes and minds go wander freely in all the bits and places of art and objects I have.

Your selection of artworks from Paper Collective are bold and eclectic. Tell me about what drew you towards these pieces and why you wanted to focus on larger artworks within your not so large apartment?
Sanja:
I just love bold pictures. And I especially fell for the colors and compositions within the artworks. It’s important for me, that the art I have speaks to me one way or the other. And I love that I have a mix of very old oilpaintings from known and unknown artists combined with modern artworks.

What advice can you give our community when it comes to combining artwork with colour in the home?
Sanja:
First and foremost; choose with your gut. If you don’t feel it, it won’t ever be right for you. Be thoughtful about what you want to create with the artwork. What story do you want to tell, what feeling should the artwork describe / reflect when the viewer looks at it in the setting you want it to be in.

Thanks Sanja!!
