Discover the new Woven Collection by A+N Studio.

Can you tell me about your experience with jacquard weaving and the important role your experience with weaving played in the design of this collection?
Textile and weaving have been part of A+N's practice for years, and Jacquard weaving in particular has been a medium we've returned to and deepened over time. Our first Jacquard projects, including collaborations with WEEEF, were as much research as design: we wanted to understand how far we could push the loom's technical possibilities in weaving in layers and floats. That hands-on experimentation is what made this collection possible.
It was really like cherry picking from our large archive of weaving samples. The confidence to work at such a fine level of detail, to know how yarn choices and weave structures interact, comes directly from years of testing and making. The craft knowledge is woven into every piece.
Can you talk about the importance of playing with 3-dimensionality and texture within the designs and how you achieved this through the jacquard techniques used.
For us, texture is never just a surface quality, it's what makes a piece feel alive. In these works, we wanted to move beyond flat imagery and create a sense of depth and tactility. Jacquard weaving gave us the tools to make this happen. By experimenting with the structure of the weave itself — varying how threads interlace, float, and layer — we were able to build up three-dimensional surfaces that mix the yarn colours, catch light and cast subtle shadows. Through the high-definition quality of the weaving, where an exceptional density of yarns per centimetre is used, even the smallest textural detail reads clearly. Quote: 'The beautiful thing is that you can discover every individual yarn the more you zoom in. The patterns that we have designed really reveal and pay tribute to the (high-tech) production process”

How did you approach colour and colour combinations within these pieces?
Working with colour in Jacquard weaving is a joyful process of exploration and a little bit of surprise. Unlike printing on fabric or paper, where what you see on screen is what you get, weaving has its own logic. The different layers of a Jacquard weave interact with each other, which means colours blend and shift in unexpected, often beautiful ways.
By working with just four colours, you can create a surprisingly rich palette, the interplay between threads produces countless mixed tones that you couldn't have planned exactly. On top of that, yarn itself adds another layer of depth: varying thicknesses and the contrast between matte and glossy yarns change how light catches the surface, giving each piece a tactile, living quality that's impossible to replicate by printing.
How do you hope people will interact and live with these works?
We hope these pieces become a quiet presence in someone's home, something they return to again and again. Like a little treasure in one’s home, to be discovered every time you pass by. Because these are high-definition weavings, there is an extraordinary amount of detail woven into every square centimetre of the surface. The three-dimensional quality of the weave adds yet another layer to discover. The more time you spend with a piece, the more you notice.
A subtle shift in texture, an unexpected colour that only reveals itself up close, a thread that catches the light differently in the morning than in the evening. We hope people feel that slow kind of discovery, the pleasure of realising there's always a little more to see.

A series of high-definition Jacquard artworks shaped through years of experimentation with weaving, texture and colour. Exploring the intersection of craft and technology, each piece reveals intricate layers of yarn, tactility and depth that slowly unfold the closer you look.
